Although no color is used in the second painting, the different types of lines within the contour, thick, thin, curved, really depict the flowing of the dress and the movement of the woman. It is not a very accurate painting, but the atmosphere and the feeling of dancing is shown through the quick sketch like lines.
I agree. There aren't very many lines in the second painting and the lines that are used are short and not very complex, but the the way the lines taper and curve give the painting a full feeling and a sense of movement.
Both paintings, particularly the second, use an economy of lines to suggest the shape of things rather than delineating each and every contour. It sets a tone of simple elegance and sensuality while staying light and fresh.
i really like the second drawing because of the simplicity of the lines, yet the sophisticated look it gives. The variety of line thicknesses give a sense of movement and sensuality.
I like how in the first painting, the line comes out of the instrument and is then used to frame the woman- it serves a purpose and ties the music and dancing together. The varying width of the line draws the eye upward towards the woman dancing.
I like, in the second picture the way the artist used the width of the lines, their curvature and length, as well as the varying shades of gray and black. It gives the subject almost an attitude.
